Live well after breast cancer through evidence based management, supported by a therapist with lived experience
Clinic located in Seaford Rise, South Australia
Welcome to Lymphoedema Wellness! Here you can learn to understand lymphoedema and how to manage its risks and symptoms. By taking this first step to find out more, you are giving yourself the best chance to live well after breast cancer, with or without lymphoedema.
It is true that after surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation we are at an increased risk of developing lymphoedema. However, there are things we can do to minimise this risk.
It is recommended that anyone who has had treatment for breast cancer attends 3-monthly follow up for signs of lymphoedema for the first 2 years after end of active treatment. This is so that if there are any signs of lymphoedema developing, early treatment can commence, and the likelihood of a serious problem is reduced. After 2 years with no symptoms, less frequent follow up is acceptable.
If you are already noticing swelling, there are ways to manage the symptoms and ease the discomfort.
Whether you choose to start with a one-off consultation or embark upon a comprehensive program of management, I'm here to work with you.
My name is Christina Paxon and I'm an accredited Lymphoedema Therapist and a Registered Nurse and Midwife. I have a history of breast cancer with extensive and ongoing treatment, and I live with lymphoedema of the arm and hand.
My personal journey with cancer and lymphoedema led me to change directions in my career from working in a maternity hospital to do further study and become a lymphoedema therapist. I did the ALERT (Australian Education, Research & Treatment) accreditation course at Macquarie University and graduated top student of the class.
I have a passion for facilitating women to live well after breast cancer, using evidence-based practices to manage the risk of developing lymphoedema and to control its symptoms and progression.
My aim is to help you fit lymphoedema management and wellness into your routine, so that you can live life to the fullest after breast cancer. I have a good listening ear, no judgement, and I am here to support you and cheer you on.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you think my services can be of help.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Lymphoedema (swelling) affects approximately 20% of women who have had treatment for breast cancer. It is a chronic condition that can impact your health and quality of life if not managed timely and appropriately.
